U.S.-made toys benefit from China recall

LOUISIANA, Mo., Aug. 16 (UPI) -- U.S.-made toys are enjoying a resurgence as more than 20 million Chinese-made toys with lead in their paint are recalled, the U.S. companies say.

Pet Food Recall: China Has Been Spiking Cat & Dog Food All Along

"While Americans are panicked over the pet food recall - it has been revealed that China has been spiking dog and cat food all along. For years, producers of animal feed all over China have secretly supplemented their feed with the substance, called melamine, a cheap additive that looks like protein in tests, even though it does not provide any nutritional benefits, according to melamine scrap traders and agricultural workers here, reports the New York Times."

Pet food scare: Details on recall

"Canadian pet food manufacturer Menu Foods has recalled numerous varieties of pet food made before March 6. Other companies have also issued alerts.

Federal testing of some of the cat and dog food and the wheat gluten used in their production turned up the chemical melamine, which can be toxic in high doses."

Pet Food Maker to Take Financial Responsibility for Pet Deaths From Poisoning

"The president of pet food maker Menu Foods, which last week issued a recall of 60 million cans and pouches of pet food after a rash of animal sickness and death, said today that the company would reimburse pet owners who can trace their pets' illnesses to the company's products."
